Dredd is Bad Ass!!! Review Time!

So tonight, Robbie and myself went to see Dredd.  No, we did not see it in 3d, because the theatre did not offer it.  ( Apparently Finding Nemo needed the 3d this week).
Review and small spoilers after the break!

Here is my Judgement of the movie.  Get it, Judgement.   Ok, I think this movie is going to build up some steam and pull some good numbers at the end of the run or is going to blow up on DVD and downloads like Fight Club.  This is a movie that you will enjoy in the theatre.
Dredd is raw, unrelenting, violent, fast paced, gorgeous, just to name a few descriptions.   Karl Urban is wonderful as the deadpan Judge Dredd.  It was hinted that he would never take his helmet off, but he is not wearing it at the very beginning, but from than on , that Helmet is tight on top of that that grizzled chin.

The story starts with Dredd having to train a rookie on her first day, Officer Anderson.  Anderson is a mutant with the ability to read minds.  After three bodies are tossed from the top of one of the giant buildings in Mega City, the investigations leads Dredd into a violent and challenging fight to find answers, judge the perps and get out alive.

With the last few weeks.  The numbers have not been great for Dredd.  This movie does not a huge following, women probably are not looking to see this movie, and the R-rating kills the teens for seeing it.  But go see it, you will enjoy it.

Karl Urban was asked about the future of Dredd
“If we could do Judge Death and the dark judges in the next one, that would be fantastic. But look, if that happens, phenomenal. I would be on board. But if it doesn’t, I think that all of us who are involved in making this film are really proud of it. [...] All I can really say is I would be up for it. But in the same sense, there’s no way that I’m counting any chickens here. It has to find an audience. That might not be in its initial theatrical run. It might be in DVD. Or maybe the financials will never stack up to warrant making another one. In that case we’re left with a pretty damn amazing graphic cult classic of a movie. That’s good too. That’s fine. Dredd is enigmatic. He is mysterious. And if this is the end of the line, then that’s a good note to end it on. Leave them wanting more.”
